This is a picture of tattoo with «the secret of happiness…» poster, that a friend of Egor (author of the poster), Denis, got recently. Egor found it interesting to ask Denis a few questions, to understand his motivation and to discuss what the poster is actually about.

Egor: Could you please tell me, what actually motivated you to make this tattoo? You were full of determination, even despite my attempts to dissuade you.
Denis: You know, it was a love at first sight. So you didn’t have many chances to dissuade me. (smiling)
For me, it is often so that, from first glance, I have a desire to make a tatoo, but there is no particular idea of how it should look, or where it will be placed, what will be the inspiration and where will i find it.
There’s just a desire. During this period it is better not to rush, and if the desire doesn’t disappear, sooner or later it happens so that at one moment you don’t have any questions and doubts any more. As it is often appears, thoughts get materialized and something that should happen does happen.
Same here. Here’s an idea, that is close to me somehow, as well as execution and the fact that this is a social project in a form of street art, and also that it is your project, person who is important to me and whom i respect! Everything gorgeously merged together and the result is this tattoo, that i am really happy with.
Egor: Through this poster i aimed to comment on the current situation, where media usually ignores many important questions & topics, instead it in many cases broadcasts useless, senseless, superficial content…you know..I am wondering whether you think we can resist it somehow?
Denis: You know, it depends on what you call mass-media. These are publishing houses, television, radio, news agencies, and more modern means of communication, such as blogs for instance. As for traditional mass-media, their purposes, unfortunately are way too far away from making world a better place, however they certainly have huge resources for it. And if these are commercial organizations they often are interested in straight profits, such as reitings and advertising business or indirect lobbying of someone’s interests. In case of state mass-media, in general, they usually care for a filtration of the information for the purpose of state security and stability in the country.
And for instance there are famous bloggers, people who aren’t hidden behind huge hierarchy, they don’t have a straight profit aim, they don’t lobby for someone’s interests, they can write whatever they want to and they will get heard. In such media you can easily find moral and existential reasoning, alternative lifestyle representations, searching for a sense and way of existence. They don’t become really popular, so it seems it’s not that necessary for the mankind of a given period of time.
It’s not just a question about mass-media, it’s rather about society in general, people are really distant and unopen from each other. They often think about themselves and their surrounding, like if they were afraid of something, being envy, angry, deceiving. Historically, in a given period of our evolution, mankind built such a society where openness, love & friendship are not dominated motives. People simply don’t trust anything or anyone, don’t believe that it is possible to change something and things can follow different path. The system is built so that it is easier and faster to achieve something to dishonourable person, rather than decent. Therefore, it is often that heads of organizations, people who have huge control and power, are far from altruism. Sometimes they are good people, who see things from within and understand that it is impossible to change anything globally, and they apply their efforts & kindness on their business, family, friends.
Thus in my opinion the situation certainly changes, thanks to modern technologies, the information becomes more accessible, people get wiser and personally I believe that among leaders there will appear more and more people with good resolves..
To resist it? I think it is possible! After all we are the units of society that are available to resist. It is necessary to work, use availability of modern technologies, to unite, be educated, be opened and to build the new society based on new principles, with new economy and with new mass-media).
Egor: We’re about to launch website project www.tosay.it, it’s going to be a site for broadcasting artistic statements completely independent of trends and contemporary art institutions, such as galleries and museums. Do you believe the internet is a panacea?
Denis: Great! Creation of something new with such a positive motivation is of course good, especially knowing you, i’m assured that it will be made professionally and at a high level. Best of luck to you with new project and i will be glad to help you if you’ll require it. I believe the internet is the best invention of mankind!(smiling) Human is a developed being, who has a large history of developing. Up to 21st century we gained loads of knowledge, and something that we all are doing here, on the the planet, not only unreasonably and contradicting this knowledge, but even contradicting to the existing laws of the nature. People stuck in existing systems and are afraid them to change, when it is actually necessary to unite and on the basis of existing knowledge to try to change these systems and build new ones. I believe that with the means of internet it becomes possible.
Egor: Does the happiness formula exist for you?
Denis: Well, of course, it is impossible to remain happy all the time. After all, the feeling of happiness is only a chemical process in a brain. But I believe that it is reasonable to think that everything will be ok. I find it really important to be interested in things & to develop. To love and to be a good person. I trust that going this way, you will be happy more often.

Егор: Скажи что мотивировало тебя все же сделать эту татуировку?
Ты был полон решимости, даже несмотря на мои попытки отговорить тебя.
Денис: Ты знаешь, это была любовь с первого взгляда. Поэтому шансов отговорить у тебя было не много.
У меня это происходит так – сперва есть желание сделать татуировку, но нет ни четкого представления что именно ты хочешь, где это будет, в чем будет идея или откуда это придет.
Просто есть желание. И в этот момент не стоит спешить, если желание с течением времени не пропадает, то рано или поздно все случится так, что в определенный момент у тебя уже не будет никаких вопросов и сомнений. Как это часто бывает, мысли материализуются и случится то, чему суждено случиться.
Так и здесь. Тут и идея, которая мне очень близка, и исполнение, и то что это социальный стрит-арт проект, и то что это именно твой проект, человека который мне дорог и которого я уважаю! Все просто чудесным образом перелилось воедино и как результат эта татуировка, которой я конечно очень доволен.
Егор: Этим постером я хотел рефлексировать текущую современную ситуацию в которой современные масс-медиа игнорируют философские и экзистенциальные вопросы, при этом заполняя эфир бессмысленной, поверхностной ерундой… Как ты думаешь можем ли мы что-то делать чтобы противостоять этому?
Денис: Знаешь, смотря что называть масс-медиа. Ведь это как издательства, телевидение, радио, информационные агентства, так и к примеру более современные средства коммуникаций, такие как блоги. Что касается традиционных СМИ, то цели их существования, к сожалению далеки от стремления сделать мир лучше, хотя безусловно они имеют огромные ресурсы для этого. Но если это коммерческие организации, то их как правило интересуют прибыли – прямые, как-то рэйтинги и продажи рекламы, или косвенные – лоббирование чьих либо интересов. Если это государственные СМИ, то они как правило обеспокоены фильтрацией информации с целью государственной безопасности и стабильности в стране. А вот к примеру популярные блоггеры – это люди, которые не спрятаны за огромной иерархией с четким распределением обязанностей, их целью как правило не является извлечение прибыли или лоббирование чьих-либо интересов, они могут писать все что им в голову придет и будут услышаны, в таких СМИ можно найти множество рассуждений о морали, духовности, чувствах, смысле существования. А также же есть образовательные каналы, множество журналов об искусстве где поднимаются подобные вопросы. Но они не становятся массово популярными, стало быть это просто не так нужно человечеству на данном периоде существования.
Тут вопрос не о СМИ, а об обществе в целом, уж больно люди далеки друг от друга. Закрыты. Часто думают только о себе и о своем ближайшем окружении. Замыкают свой разум, бояться чего-то, комплексуют, завидуют, злятся, обманывают. Так уж исторически сложилось, что на данный период нашего развития человечество выстроило такое общество, в котором открытость, любовь, дружба, уходят на второй план. Люди не верят ничему и никому, не верят в то, что можно что-то изменить и что может быть по-другому. Система такова, что гораздо проще и быстрей в ней добиться чего-либо непорядочному человеку, чем порядочному. Поэтому чаще во главе каких-либо структур стоят как правило не самые альтруисты. Либо хорошие люди, но которые, видя все изнутри, понимают что глобально ничего поменять нельзя и просто сеют свою добро на свой бизнес, на свою семью, друзей.
При этом на мой взгляд ситуация конечно меняется, благодаря современным технологиям, информация становится доступней, люди умнеют и лично я верю, что среди лидеров будет появляться все больше людей с добрыми намерениями.
Противостоять этому? Я думаю конечно можно! ведь мы и есть те самые единицы общества! Надо работать, пользоваться доступностью современных технологий, объединяться, обучаться, быть открытыми и выстраивать новое общество, основанное на новых принципах, с новой экономикой и с новыми СМИ.
Егор: Мы запускаем проект www.toSay.it, это будет сайт, который будет транслировать художественные высказывания совершенно независимо от актуальных трендов в современном искусстве, институций, галерей и музеев. Ты веришь в интернет как в панацею?
Денис: Класс! создание чего-то нового с добрым посылом – это всегда здорово, тем более зная тебя, я уверен, что это будет сделана очень профессионально и на высоком уровне. Желаю Вам удачи в новом проекте и буду рад помочь Вам в нем, если моя помощь понадобится.
Я верю что интернет – лучшее, что изобрело человечество! Ведь человек – существо разумное, всю свою историю существования развивается и эволюционирует, к двадцать первому веку набран огромный багаж знаний, а то, чем мы сейчас занимаемся на планете Земля, не то что не разумно и противоречит этим знаниям, но также противоречит всем существующим законам природы. Люди вцепились в существующие системы и боятся их изменять, а вместо этого надо объединяться, открываться и на основе существующих знаний пробовать менять эти системы и выстраивать новые. Верю, что благодаря интернету это станет возможным.
Егор: Существует ли для тебя формула счастья как константа?
Денис: Ну конечно нельзя быть все время счастливым. Ведь чувство счастья – это всего лишь химический процесс в головном мозге. Но я верю, что гораздо разумней верить в то, что все будет хорошо, интересоваться, развиваться. Любить и быть хорошим человеком. Верю что идя по этому пути, ты будешь счастлив чаще.
